no panicked stops

Recently RockyDaddy stayed up until midnight to replace the brake pads on my minivan. The next morning I asked him how it went. He said, “Not too bad. I watched a video on Youtube before I did it.” I gave him a worried look. But he assured me that he learned from the master- my brother, who rebuilt an engine in the guest bathroom of his apartment one year.

Then he called from his drive to work to remind me one thing that he forgot to mention. “The directions said to avoid ‘panicked stops’ for the first 30 miles.”

Isn’t that what brakes are for? -PANICKED STOPS! How exactly do I avoid panicked stops? Really, what good are brakes until they can handle panicked stops in the Rocky Mountains?!
